Words
fail to describe the warm cozy setting that surrounded the beautiful wedding of
Olamiji Oke, now Mrs Gbadebo, a second year philosophy student on the 3rd
of June, 2017. Even Mother Nature was in complete resonance with the wedding,
gracing our path with tears from the sky. What more could you ask for?
The
wedding, which took place at Nikoms event centre, was an exquisite blend of the
traditional and modern, the old generation and the future generation. From the very beginning, our bride sported a
natural glow of joy that even makeup could not hide. She danced so hard
because...well, It’s her day.
Walking
into the reception hall, we were lulled in by the ambience and soft romantic
music...you know the kind that makes you want to fall in love real quick. And
don’t get me started on the seating arrangements. It is one of the reasons why
I love Yoruba weddings. No matter where you sit, food must still get to you.
From the rice to small chops, salad, asun, ofada rice, salad, amala...You name
it, they have it. The caterers were efficient in delivering their duties so I
didn’t stay hungry for long. There was so much love everywhere that it was hard
not to get caught up in its embrace.
Moving
on to the bride’s grand entrance, this was where philosophy students turned up
en masse for their own. Even the Scholars and Mummy Yo’s of the class danced
and rejoiced like it was no man’s land. My dear, no dulling was permitted. The
bride didn’t let them beat her at her turf too as she got down and gave it to
them like it should be
You
know how it is right? When you don’t know how to dance but you’re so overcome
with joy that any move is acceptable? That’s how it was that day.
However,
I require permission to acknowledge the one person that stood by the bride all
through the program, supporting and helping like she was his younger sister.
Scholar Koffi, a man of little words but bountiful blessings; May God bless the
fruits of your works, you selfless being.
Speaking
on the wedding, Philosophy students from different levels expressed their joy
for the bride and wished her a blissful married life.
From
the happy Bride:
my wedding day was a glorious day, beyond my expectations. God favored me, it was a dream come true. I have always wanted my wedding to be like that, the turn up of the student of the University of Lagos and philosophy students especially, made me feel loved and accepted. They stood by me, some even came to assist days before the event and it all just made me feel fulfilled.
All I can say is all thanks and glory to the almighty God. I also want to thank Koffi, Omolara, and big Oluchi. God really used them for me, may God bless them and bless the class of '19 and the whole philosophy department at large. God bless
